A Sample of Real Event and Catering Reviews from our Clients and Guests (2001 to present)
“I honestly can’t say enough good things about Voila and their team. I’d love to do an event in Portland again just to be able to hire them…and of course enjoy their wonderful food.
Run down of the basics:
1. The food is amazing. Beyond that, it is distinctive enough to impress foodies, but not scare off the less adventurous. Further beyond that, the presentation is beautiful and makes the food look even more appetizing, yet not fussy.
2. They were a great partner. I didn’t feel like they gave me just a standard package out of a catalog, but rather put together a menu that was specific to my needs (I was looking for something that felt local, but not standard or boring). They also offered suggestions & tweaks to what i originally thought i wanted based on their experience in the area and my budget.
3. Efficient and timely. We had a tight set-up window, and even tighter set-up/staging space, they were able to make all work flawlessly.
4.The serving staff were all nice, helpful, courteous, etc.
5. Price-the cost was extremely, extremely reasonable.
I would use them again in a heartbeat.”
Sunnie, Corporate Event Manager, Office Depot, May 2013
“My husband and I recently used Voila Catering for our wedding reception at the Rose Garden Amphitheater. Voila was wonderful, not only was the service excellent but the food as delicious as I’d hoped for also. Our guests were very impressed with the food and everyone had a good time. We got so many compliments, and the waiting staff and Tamara were so professional and friendly, it really felt like a polished, elegant party which is exactly what we had hoped for.
I know in some of the reviews people indicated that they have strong opinions, but honestly his opinions were correct on the big day, and I was glad we went with most of his suggestions. Something as simple as his suggestion to order off white table linens instead of pure white so that the sun didn’t blind our guests reflecting off the linens. On the day of, the sun was very bright, and off white was certainly bright enough, I was SO glad we went with his suggestion. I was worried they wouldn’t look white enough, but they looked great. They really know their business. Lot’s of simple suggestions like that really made a difference in how enjoyable the day was, and how smoothly it went.
I was also really impressed with how tolerant Jonathan and Tamara were of my husband and I changing our minds or adding in new things right up to last minute. They were very polite and had excellent service in this regard. They helped us deal with last minute hiccups with solutions that worked wonderfully. They also allowed us to bring in a special kind of soda we wanted and coordinated a lot of extra things with other vendors that we needed, so that we didn’t have to think about those extra things and could just enjoy the day.
I was very pleased and my husband also so glad we chose Voila, we will use them again if we have a big event.”

“I can’t imagine my wedding without Voila’s food, planning, and services! They not only cooked a fresh amazing meal but provided event planning services that really made the wedding great. Voila uses all fresh ingredients and and cooks the meals on site. Before the wedding they provided me with a schedule of the day including their staff schedule and a venue map with timeline of the day. The morning of my wedding Jonathon provided me with all the guidance I needed to not be stressed, when I needed water or champagne he had it ready for me! I will use Voila for any event I can think of in the future and would recommend them with full confidence to anyone. I also was able to rent anything I needed from paper lanterns to sound systems through them which is incredibly helpful saving time and money.” Shanti and Mark, Bridal Veil Lakes, June 2013
“Thank you so much, the event came off without a hitch. The guests loved the food and the service was fantastic.” Jay & Carol, January 2012
“My husband and I had a small wedding at the Old Church in Portland with 32 guests. Jonathan and his team were amazing! He treated our event as if it was for the president himself! They took care of everything for us, setting up tables, lighting candles, moving decorations, setting up the sound system… Absolutely amazing! We were on a tight schedule but were able to eat, dance, celebrate and clean up in plenty of time without feeling rushed! They were at the church on time and got everything set up beautifully! The food was… Out of this world! Guests are still raving about the dinner and service! His team treated us with nothing but love and kindness and became part of our family! Jonathan was there when some pictures were being taken, he smiled and complemented me like I was family! Jonathan will take charge in a good way… He knows what he is doing. Some things I suggested he added or moved around so that the overall experience would be so much better! As every bride, I had last minute changes but even then there was nothing but excitment from him to make my dream come true! I highly recommend them and will use them again for our future events! Our wedding couldn’t have been more beautiful or wonderful without him!!!” Stacey, The Old Church, December 2012
“We couldn’t be happier with Voila Catering and would recommend them to anyone planning an event in the Portland area. We live out of state, but were planning a small, 50 guest wedding in Portland. After deciding on Leach Botanical Gardens as our ideal venue due to size and location, we found Voila Catering recommended on Leach’s website. We were immediately impressed with Voila’s website as it was much more informative than other caterer’s websites. We continued shopping around but kept coming back to Voila’s website. Their overall philosophy appealed to us: they prepare food on-site, they use local/seasonal food when available and they attempt to keep costs down while providing quality food. I am often disappointed by food at weddings and I wanted food at our wedding that guests would rave about afterwards, without spending at an outrageous amount of money.
We contacted Voila and told them what we had in mind based on the example menus on their website. Jonathan sent us a suggested menu that fit our needs and worked with the few dietary restrictions of some of our guests.
We traveled to Portland 6 months before our wedding to meet with vendors. At Leach, we were told that they often work with Voila for events and had an excellent relationship with them. We found this encouraging. Next, we met with Jonathan at Voila’s headquarters, toured their facilities and tasted their food.
At the time, we were still deciding whether we needed a wedding planner. Jonathan did an excellent job of explaining why he doesn’t work with them and why they are not necessary, particularly for a small event like ours. Jonathan never gave us a “hard sell”, but we decided to book Voila on the spot and never thought about a wedding planner after that moment. Jonathan never tried to up-sell any services, if anything he tried to steer us towards decisions that would save us money. The price he quoted us was well within our budget, without us having to skimp on anything.
Jennifer was the on-site manager the day of the wedding and she did an excellent job of pulling everything together. Since our wedding was small and simple, we really didn’t need a wedding planner and she took care of coordinating everything. Our wedding went off without a hitch and we had no stress because Jennifer and the Voila team did such a good job. Their price was reasonable and we even received a small refund from them afterwards. Our most critical, foodie guests were impressed and we had exactly the wedding day we wanted. If you are considering Voila for your next event, read the References page on their website, all of the kind words there exactly describe our experience with them.” Josh, Leach Botanical Gardens, November 2012
“Thank you for all the work and planning you put into our wedding. We have received compliment after compliment regarding the food and service. People keep telling us how smooth and organized the whole event felt. We could not have done it without you. Thank you again for giving us piece of mind and an event to remember!” Rachel & Ryan, Forest Grove Cultural Center, May 2010
“Thank you again for such a wonderful event. I received numerous compliments on the catering choice as well as the delicous food and fun signature cocktails. Your staff is Stellar!” Briana, Corsource Inc., Holiday Party 2010
“Nancie and I, and everyone else we talked with, absolutely loved how smoothly and professionally our wedding day went. The quality of the food and the service was excellent. We will definitely recommend Voila Catering to others!” Carl and Nancie, July 2010
“You folks were perfect, and we don’t normally say that. You were fun to work with, creative, and flexible. All the guests loved the food and the service. You helped make the event truly magical. We can’t recall a single thing that could be improved.” Kym and Fred, Hoyt Arboretum, August 2010
“Thanks so much for your team’s amazing work last Sunday! We really appreciated everything and had a wonderful experience! The food was delicious and the service excellent. Many of the guests commented that it was the best food they have ever had at a wedding! It was wonderful and we will certainly recommend you to everyone!” Jill &Eddie, Bridal Veil Lakes, August 2010
“We are so happy with the service and food you provided for our wedding this summer. The decision to go with Voilà catering was easy, and we haven’t regretted it. The food was fantastic, the service was excellent and the cost was reasonable………….The food your chef and his team prepared was wonderful. We received many compliments from our guests, and, most importantly, we enjoyed our meal immensely. We were so pleased that you were able to accommodate our guests’ many dietary requirements. Our vegetarian and vegan guests were very happy with their meal, and they appreciated having so many options available to them, from hors d’oeuvres to desserts. Although we originally didn’t think it necessary, the pasta dish for the young ones was very much appreciated by their parents. Some couldn’t resist stealing bites off their children’s plates, since it was so tasty! Adding the side of strawberries was totally unexpected and the perfect complement. ……………..The food wasn’t the only component of our day that went above-and-beyond. The service staff was professional and available at all times. One of our friends working in the service industry gave the best compliment: “The service was unobtrusive, but available for needs and accommodating of requests.” We felt this summed up the dinner service perfectly. It’s also worth mentioning, that despite our best efforts to predict the needs of our guests, any afterthought was already being addressed by Jonathan and the staff by the time we mentioned it. They were flexible with the schedule to accommodate a more comfortable dining environment in the slow-to-arrive shade, while miraculously ending on-time and without additional service charge…………………….The staff all responded with grace to several unexpected shifts in the day’s schedule. For all the wonderful food and service, one would expect the cost to be exorbitant. Paying for the great service and food wasn’t burdensome at all. We felt the cost was completely reasonable for all we received. We especially appreciated your willingness to accommodate the extra effort our location’s distance and amenities (or lack-there-of) presented. Without Voilà’s ability to cook food on-site, our guests would have been eating food prepared 40-60 minutes earlier, at best. We were very proud to offer freshly cooked food, as though we were hosting a dinner party at home. Amazingly, compared to the other companies available in the area (which did not provide freshly cooked food), Voilà’s prices were better!………………..Knowing that the staff were being paid an acceptable wage without tips made us feel better as well. Voilà clearly knows the way to provide the best service and food for a reasonable price. The photography and the food were our highest priorities in planning our event. Voilà made it possible to serve our guests two entrees with a family style service. It truly felt as though we were hosting the way we would have at home…if our home were in a Hollywood movie. The meal and the day were picture perfect. Thank you so much for your endless efforts in planning and executing our event. We will always remember how truly magical it was.” Mr. and Mrs. Dandrea, The Gordon House, July 2011”
“Thanks so much for catering our wedding. The site looked perfect and exactly as we pictured it, thanks to all the careful planning and layout you did beforehand. The food was delicious and we have heard sever times now from several guests that it was the best they have every had at a catered event. Thanks for helping to make our wedding everythign we hoped it would be!” Kristen & Dustin, Crystal Springs, August 2010

We could not have been more pleased. Thanks Again!” Keva & Seth, Family-Style Dinner at Holy Names Heritage Center, July 2009

“Many thanks to Jonathan, Chef Tamara, and the staff of Voila Catering at our summer wedding reception! Let me tell you about the many, many compliments we received from our guests: the food was delicious – so MANY people told me the chicken was the most delicious and moist chicken the had EVER had – and undoubtedly the best chicken they had ever tasted at an event. The raves began rolling in as the appetizers were being served – I particularly enjoyed the crab salad and recalled that it was a suggestion you made instead of crab cakes. I was thrilled that I not only got to eat, but I thoroughly enjoyed everything. Several people commented on how helpful and pleasant the staff was. Everything went seamlessly and contributed to a glorious day! After being thoroughly spoiled by Voila Catering, I’m looking forward to other opportunities to enjoy your food and service and I think many of my guests feel the same. Thanks so much!” Meloney & Brian, Family-Style Dinner at Antonia Ballroom, July 2009
“Thanks Jonathan and Chef Tamara for a fabulous birthday party. All this past week, I’ve been hearing from guests who loved the food and service, just as I knew they would with Voila. You guys are the best and I am glad you were able to handle this event. Needless to say, if you ever need a reference, you can count on me to gush uncontrollably.” Brian, Plated Birthday Dinner, May 2009
“The comments from our guests were uniformly positive about all aspects of the wedding an reception. A particularly close friend who is quite a “foodie” was especially complimentary about the menu. She remarked how very well the menu items complimented each other in taste and appearance. Many people commented that it was “THE BEST” wedding they had ever been to. Your efforts greatly contributed to that feeling. My daughter (bride) said that the wedding had been everything she ever dreamed of. Once again, your role in that was essential. It was a pleasure to work with you. Your professionalism and personal commitment to making Erin and Casey’s day truly special is deeply appreciated.” Ann, Mother of the Bride, Passed Hors D’Oevures and Buffet Dinner at Elk Cove Winery, July 2009.
“We were very pleased with Voila Catering’s service! We heard through the grapevine that one of our friends, a west side attorney, said he had never eaten such fine food at a wedding…your staff did a great job! Please feel free to give our names if people would like a reference. It was a pleasure to deal with you. Thanks for making our daughter’s wedding such a stress free event for us! Judy, Mother of the Bride, Family-Style Dinner at Rhododendron Gardens, August 2009
“Your team did a great job on Saturday! And so many people told me how fantastic the food was – they really went on and on about it! We had no trouble giving those leftovers away. Thanks for making our day so fun…truly a day to remember. I’m happy to give a reference to prospective clients if you’d like!” Kate and Alex, Passed Hors d’Oeuvres & Family-Style Backyard Wedding, August 2009
“A great, big thank you from all of us at MIG, and from me in particular. Our appreciation dinner was, by all accounts, a wonderful success — in no small part due to the wonderful food and excellent staff. Everything was elegant and beautiful. The experience of coordinating with you from the initial e-mail to the event itself was by far the least complicated catering experience of my professional career!” Allison, Company Plated Dinner for MIG Inc. at Architectural Heritage Center, Oct 2008.
“We would highly recommend you to others for catering and rentals. Your estimate was almost exactly what it ended up costing and we loved how you gave us the spreadsheet with everything laid out. As you said, nothing was a surprise and there were not any hidden costs. Thank you so much for the wonderful food and the lovely rentals. It really pulled the place together and gave our backyard an elegant feel. Thanks again!” Shannon and Erik, Casual Country Buffet Dinner Wedding, August 2009
“Thank you so much for all you did for our wedding at David Hill. The food and service was fabulous!” Jennifer & Dan, Passed Hors d’Oeuvres & Family-Style Dinner at David Hill Winery, Sept 2008.
“Leah and I were incredibly pleased with every aspect of your service and can’t thank you enough for the last minute adjustments based on the shifting weather…We have received rave reviews on every item on the menu…they loved the demitasse cups and were amazed at the subtle flavor combinations…and the gorgonzola & phyllo cups you invented just for us were nothing short of fantastic…we personally loved the salad and the salmon was possibly the best glazed salmon we have ever had…the figs and port reduction on the pork loin was a perfect compliment. The service was impeccably professional and relaxed (which we appreciated), the table set-up was beautiful, and the bar service hospitable. All in all, a wonderful event! Again, thank you for all your assistance and expertise. Its been a pleasure.” John and Leah, Passed Hors D’Oeuvres & Family-Style Dinner, Bridal Veil Lakes, October 2008

We received many compliments on the food served. Thank you!” Tim & Jeanna, Buffet Dinner at Laurelhurst Club Wedding, Sept. 2008
“Voila Catering has provided some of the best food that my company has ever had the joy of experiencing. Jonathan Goodrow the owner is friendly, and knowledgeable. Patrick and Colleen were very professional, and kind. And the food was absolutely out of this world. The lemon caper chicken breasts were moist with just the right amount of tang. The roasted garlic Parmesan red potatoes were addictive, and the butternut squash hazelnut lasagna disappeared so fast, it was almost like someone put an invisibility cloak over it. They came back right on time to clean. The prices are very reasonable for the remarkable gourmet food! And this was just lunch. Highly, highly recommended!” Mrs. Potter, November 2007
“Thank you for all the energy you, Chef Tamara, and your staff spent at our Westerly Condominiums event. We were all more than pleased. The food tasted great and looked beautiful. Thank you again!” Susan, Elegant Passed Hors d’Oeuvres at The Westerly Condominiums for 400, Debbie Thomas Real Estate, October 2008.
“Thank you! The event was such a great success. It was so busy I didn’t get to taste anything but the duck and the truffle squares. They were amazing, and I would give anything for them now. Your team was perfect and so nice to work with on the tastings. I hope they enjoyed working it too. Our turn-out was better than expected and has already generated a lot of business for us. Thank you for all your help!” Susan, Elegant Passed Hors d”oevures at Grand Opening of The Westerly Condominiums, Debbie Thomas Real Estate, March 2008.
“I attended the B & B Wedding at Bridal Veil Lakes yesterday… and just wanted to let you know that your food was the BEST catered food I have ever enjoyed! I have attended many weddings and other catered affairs here in Portland, as well as in Los Angeles, Atlanta, St. Louis, Boston and New York… and I can honestly say the menu and quality of food that you provided was simply the best! Wedding food often has that mass produced… not all that wonderful taste… but my dinner and dessert tasted like an individually made meal. …Thank you for your fabulous attention to detail! As someone in the Event Management business, I greatly appreciate such quality! You are definitely the caterer I will use in the future for any catering needs I may have in the future!” Unsolicited E-Mail from Wedding Guest, Cooked On-Site Reception Dinner at Bridal Veil Lakes, August 2007

Cafe Voilà: ” Fellow urban workers, it’s time to kiss your bland lunch rut goodbye. You’re going to want to thank somebody for opening this sunny new lunch spot while you’re moaning over a mouthful of drip-off-the-bone tender lamb shanks or devouring a cup of the elegantly flavored yet scandalously creamy salmon-packed chowder. You can pay your respects, not just to Cafe Voilà’s talented chef/co-owner, Tamara Kay, and her partner, Jonathan Goodrow, but also to the City Club of Portland. When the local meeting meisters moved their home base uptown to the Pittock Building, clubbers begged its favorite upscale, seasonally obsessed caterer, Kay and Goodrow’s Voilà Catering, to fire up the stove for downtown’s hungry masses. Now the just-opened Cafe Voilà stocks a packed lunch case with thick strata of tall sandwiches, tamales, tarts, innovative salads, and daily vegetarian and carnivore-minded surprises. (Pssst–former cookie baker Kay also makes her own helluva German-chocolate chipper.)” Willamette Week,. November 2004

Café Voilà: ” This adorable little downtown café will endear you with its sincerity and delicious high-quality food. Their inventive soups rotate daily recently they served a butternut squash with pancetta and a white bean and vegetable soup zestified with pesto. Order a cup or bowl with one of their sandwiches (like goat cheese and tomato or pecan chicken salad), fresh mixed green salads, or deli salads. I couldn’t pass up their duck, wild rice, and cranberry salad creation, which, paired with the bean soup, represented nearly every food group. Next time you’re downtown, give this place a try–the owner will thank you, and you’ll undoubtedly be back.” Portland Mercury, December 8, 2004

“What a party! Everything went so well and I have heard nothing but positive feedback. Kudos to you and your staff for a wonderful meal (the hors d’oeuvres were divine) and setting a pace between hors d’oeuvres, dinner, and dessert that seemed relaxed and effortless. It is the mark of a professional staff to be both responsive and unobtrusive and your staff was both. Not once did I see an empty plate linger or an anxious person at the bar ….I speak for the whole committee when I extend my sincere appreciation for your continued support of the Contemporary Art Council. The event would not have been the success it was without your advice, attention to detail, and generous contribution.
